Author Need To Know…

Congratulations! Writing and publishing your book is quite the achievement. We understand and appreciate the amount of time you have invested in your book, which is why we want to share a few tips.

Marketing Your Book

The success of your book relies greatly on marketing. Regardless of where you take your book, here are a few things to keep in mind….

·      Price: When pricing your book take into account the amount you invest into each book during printing, compare your book to similar titles, and know that you will have to compete with industry prices.

·      Quality: Professional publishing houses and authors have the resources to ensure that revisions are made where necessary, books are produced with no grammatical errors, cover art is appealing, etc. If you are self published this may not be the case. Ask the printing company you used if they offer similar services or assemble a group of people who would be willing to help with this process. If you are expecting readers to spend the same amount of money on your books as they would from an established author and publishing house make it as appealing.

·      Promotion: This is your chance to be creative and share your story! Write a press release to send to local news outlets, have an active presence on social media and engage with your readers, reach out to stores that may be interested in your book and offer to send a copy for review, make bookmarks, word of mouth etc.

If you would like your book on consignment at our store please consider the following…

·      We may not always be available to accommodate walk-ins or telephone inquiries. Therefore, we encourage authors to email their contact information and book details to shaye@newchapterbookswv.com.

·      When submitting your book for review, please include a picture of the cover, promotional material, publicity plans, target audience, and any connections you may have with the area.

·      Due to the increase of books produced by self-published and indie sectors, we are discovering that there is a varying level in both written and illustrated quality. Therefore we request books have an ISBN as well as the title and author displayed on the spine. No spiral bound books.

·      If you would like to have your book for sale in time for the holiday season, please notify us by October 1st.

·      If your book is available through one of our regular publishers, we will order it directly from that publisher.

·      Our standard consignment agreement is 50/50 between the author and store as well as dedicated shelf time for a minimum of 6 months. Payments will be mailed every 3 months (March, June, September, December).

·      The decision made by the inventory manager and owner is final. We reserve the right to accept or deny the inclusion of books if we feel it does not coincide with our store philosophy.
